Skills Assessments

All players who have completed registration and are eligible to play in the Minor and/or Major divisions should attend a skill assessment session. The goal of GCLL is for equal and fair competition. In order to achieve this, an adequate evaluation of potential players must take place.

All players, including Manager, Coach’s and Board members' players are expected to participate in at least one of the assessment days.

  1. Each player that participates in the skill assessment shall have an opportunity to bat/bunt, field fly balls, field ground balls, throw, and run in competition with players in the same division.

  2. There is no skill assessment for the Tee-Ball, Baseball A, and AA divisions and Softball Farm division.

Each skill will be graded by a Board approved Player Evaluation Committee.  Results of tryouts will be organized by the Player Evaluation Committee and made available to Managers to assist with improving competitive balance during player selection at the draft.

In certain instances, based on the skills assessment results a player may be moved between divisions.  While never an easy decision, due to the limitations we have with the number of teams in each division, this may occur at the discretion of the division's raters and the player agent, with oversight by the VPs of baseball and softball.

Team Building

Tee Ball and Farm Divisions - Teams placements are assigned randomly to balance roster numbers. Teammate and coach requests are considered but not guaranteed.

Minors, Majors and Juniors/Seniors Divisions - Teams are built through a draft process as outlined by Little League International based upon the ratings determined during the skills assessments.  Managers draft players to their team during the draft process with the oversight of the player agent, VPs of baseball and softball and the President.  Upon completion of the draft, total team scores are reviewed and if necessarily, a rebalancing is performed through a trade process in an effort to build comparable teams.  Teammate and coach requests are considered in the draft process but not guaranteed.

We strive to keep our Majors baseball division at four teams due to historical enrollment and the competitive nature of this division.  As a result, some players registered for majors may be moved into minors after the skills assessments are completed.
